Job Overview

Assistant Brewers provide brewhouse support and are in training for the Brewer position at Badger State Brewing. Assistant Brewers will also receive training in the Cellar Department and provide extensive support to cellars as well. To add to their knowledge base of brewery operations, Assistant Brewers will receive basic training in the Lab Department. Operation and upkeep of equipment, and maintaining quality control throughout all aspects of the Brewing and Cellar processes will be a focus for this position. Assistant Brewers will receive and process raw materials, gather & weigh out hops and malts, and otherwise stage brewing ingredients to keep production running smooth and all beers at an optimal quality level. Hours may vary to align with staffing and production needs.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Brewing Department:

∙ Complete brewing process in a safe and efficient manner. This includes, but is not limited to, milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring to fermenters.

∙ Maintaining the use of standard operating procedures unless otherwise instructed.

∙ Monitor, pitch and evaluate yeast as needed.

∙ Work with Lab Technician to ensure our product meets our standards of the highest quality.

∙ Ensure supply of raw materials and other inventory items such as:

∙ Work with others brewers to maintain barrel program.

∙ Maintain cleanliness of all areas in the brew house.

∙ Communicate regularly and efficiently with co-workers.

∙ Perform other duties as assigned.

Cellar Department:

∙ Operate cellar equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

∙ Follow SOP’s to meet quality specifications and ensure proper kegging operations.

∙ Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.

∙ Maintain yeast disposal, and grain area cleanup schedule.

∙ Perform all tasks in an efficient, safe and productive manner.

∙ Maintain inventory as needed. Report and low levels of inventory to your supervisor when necessary.

∙ Monitor gravities, temperatures, DO, and carbonations daily.

∙ Be responsible for ensuring that security procedures are adhered to throughout the building.

∙ Assist other departments when necessary, including but not limited to Cellars, Packaging, Maintenance, and QA/QC/Lab.


∙ Assist with setup, running, and cleaning packaging equipment as needed.


∙ 2+ years professional brewing experience

∙ Basic functional knowledge of Microsoft Office

∙ Strong willingness to learn on the job and perform in stressful situations.
